Making an Appointment

We encourage you to make appointments through our online system ( or by calling us at 913-588-6580. Appointment confirmation will be sent to your email address. Showing up is important, so if you must cancel, we appreciate you contacting us 24 hours in advance. If you miss two appointments without canceling, you will be limited to visiting the Writing Center during walk-in hours only for the duration of the semester. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will lose your appointment.

Please make appointments well in advance of your deadline. This will allow plenty of time to revise your work. Appointments made less than 3 days before a due date are often not useful, especially during peak times of the semester. Consultations will not be conducted less than 2 hours before an assignment is due.

When you come to the Writing Center, we ask that you turn off cell phones and other devices in order to focus on writing. We also ask that you bring your assignment as well as your draft, either in paper or electronic form. Appointments usually last an hour, but we're flexible. If you have a draft longer than 8 pages, we ask that you make multiple appointments over several days.

The work you bring to us is confidential and protected by FERPA ( The notes that the consultant takes during a session describe his work with you. They are not used to evaluate you or your work in any way.
