Our Mission:

The KU Medical Center Writing Center seeks literacy development that supports a vibrant and inclusive writing culture. Through individual consultations, presentations, and workshops, the center demystifies writing conventions and processes. We welcome all students and aim to celebrate and foster everyone’s unique perspective, voice, and experiences.

Our Approach:

At the Writing Center, we view writing as a skill that requires practice. No one is born a great writer, but everyone can grow to become one. Writing is a process of discovery: the more you write, the more you will be able to develop your own voice and talent. Good writing skills are essential to success in any healthcare career. Our tutors will work collaboratively with you to explore strategies to achieve your writing, academic, and career goals.

History

In 2012, the University of Kansas Medical Center provided a graduate writing specialist for students and residents. Since then, the Writing Center has emerged as a place where the campus community can find support on all kinds of communication projects. The Writing Center is part of Academic and Student Affairs, which strives for excellence in education, research, patient care and community engagement.
