I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Saint Mary''s College of California and am currently a fourth year doctoral student in the department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC). I also work part-time as a Life Coach (Academic Mentor) within UMKC''s School of Education. Before joining KUMC''s Counseling Services, I worked with a general client population at Community Counseling and Assessment Services, as well as with a student client population at William Jewell College.

I have worked with client concerns including depression, anxiety disorders, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, abuse, bereavement and general identity and adjustment concerns. I also led a confidential support group for LGBT students at William Jewell College. My theoretical orientation can be broadly described as a combination of humanistic, interpersonal, and cognitive-behavioral philosophies. I believe that clients are diverse persons who require a unique therapeutic approach and experience that is based on their varied and distinct concerns and needs. One approach I use with clients is to help them to examine dysfunctional cognitive and interpersonal patterns in order to gain awareness and recreate healthy, functional patterns. I see the counselor-client relationship as collaborative and reciprocal in nature and I view counseling as a process of exploration, as client and counselor work together toward insight and positive change.

My free time activities often include playing guitar and drums or finding new creative outlets. As a California native, I make it a priority to get back to the beach and renew my tan each semester. I appreciate the opportunity to work with and serve KUMC students and am excited to be part of this community.
