I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Cornell University and am currently a fourth year doctoral student in the department of Counseling Psychology at the University of Missouri, Kansas City (UMKC). I also work part-time for LGBTQIA Programs & Services at UMKC where I am charged with the task of establishing an identifiable network of allies who can provide support, information, and resources to the LGBTQIA community.
Throughout my training, I have worked directly with a variety of client concerns, including: depression, anxiety, suicide/crisis intervention, diversity issues, interpersonal relationships, sexual concerns, eating disorders, stress management, study skills, test anxiety, and family of origin problems. My approach to counseling is holistic in nature with the goal of identifying and developing strengths that empower individuals to make effective and meaningful changes in their lives. I place significant value on the therapeutic relationship and employ a theoretical framework that incorporates existential psychotherapy, interpersonal process, and mindfulness practice. As a current graduate student, I have a natural empathy and an understanding of the complex personal, professional, and emotional struggles that students endure, as the health sciences require complete devotion to the curriculum. I embrace the opportunity to work closely with students in helping them to process their concerns with the objective of moving towards healthier, more purposeful, and fulfilling lives.
Post graduation, I aspire to teach, conduct research, and practice psychology. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my partner, Patrick, and my cat, Frida. My interests include: painting, fitness, traveling, cooking, golfing, music, and vintage clothes.
