I am a third-year Ph.D. student in Counseling Psychology at the University of Kansas, where I recently obtained my MS in Counseling Psychology. I began my undergraduate studies in Psychology at the Catholic University of Asuncion, Paraguay, my home country; then I transferred to Emporia State University where I obtained a BS with honors in Psychology and a minor in Philosophy. I did my first MS at Emporia State as well; I studied special education with a concentration in gifted, talented and creative students.
So far, I have lived in four countries in three continents, which is not a surprise since I grew up in a multicultural family and speak many languages (Spanish, German, English, Dutch, French, Italian, Portuguese and Guaraní). I see myself as a multicultural family systems therapist-in-training who believes in person-centered, strengths-based treatment for clients. For me, therapy needs to be culturally sensitive, understanding situations of privilege and oppression. I use the client's language, I focus on client's wishes, and I nurture the therapeutic relationship.
When I am not studying or in the office, I love to travel, attend rock concerts with my husband, watch soccer matches from the Paraguayan and the English Premier leagues, and have some fun with Latin dancing.
