Military Residency

The University of Kansas Medical Center allows current and former members of the armed forces to be considered in-state residents for tuition and fee purposes. This is in compliance with State of Kansas law and the federal Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014.

How to receive resident status

For those Currently Serving in the Armed Forces (and their spouse/dependents):

Eligibility Requirements

  • Current member of the Armed Forces of the United States (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, Coast Guard, Kansas Army or Air National Guard or any branch of the military reserves of the United States) or the member's spouse or dependent child.

  • Continuous enrollment (except summer terms)

For Veterans of the Armed Forces (and their spouse/dependents):

Eligibility Requirements

  •  Currently eligible to receive an educational benefit (Chapters 30, 31, 33, 35, 1606, and 1607) and the service member must have had more than 90 days of service AND/OR the veteran must have established residency prior to service in the armed forces AND/OR been permanently stationed in Kansas during service in the armed forces.
  • You must verify that you live in Kansas by the start of your first semester, and your address in Enroll & Pay must be updated to a Kansas location.

Process

  • Provide a copy of your DD-214 and a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to the KUMC Office of the Registrar at kumcregistrar@kumc.edu, and/or the School Certifying Official at veterans@kumc.edu

Maintenance

  • Continuous enrollment (except summer terms)
  • Continue to live in Kansas for the duration of your academic program

Please note, the University of Kansas Medical Center does not participate in the Yellow Ribbon program.
