Transfer Policy

Applications for transfer into the third-year class are considered only if space becomes available in the rising third-year class.

A transfer applicant must:

• Be a U.S. citizen or have permanent resident status and, preferably, be a legal resident of Kansas.
• Be enrolled as a student in good standing in a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
• Have successfully completed all course work in a preclinical curriculum comparable to that of the KU School of Medicine.
• Have passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE).
• Present compelling circumstances as reason for the request to transfer.
