Beyond Grades and MCATs
In addition to the "numbers," experiences are important in your preparation. This workshop will facilitate the sharing of ideas for gaining health care, physician shadowing, research, social service and leadership experiences.
Components of a Competitive Application
Most pre-medical students know they need good grades and MCAT scores to successfully compete for a seat in a medical school class. Good numbers, while important, are not enough to be a competitive applicant. Every year students with great grades and test scores are denied admission. This session will focus on the components of a competitive application to medical school: their importance, their interrelationships, and some strategies for success.
Calculating the Cost: Medical School Financial Aid and Debt Management
A representative from the KU Medical Center Office of Student Financial Aid will address the question, "How will I pay for my medical education?" Learn how you can begin preparing today.
Insight into Interviewing
Following the presentation of general information on the interview process, a mock interview will be conducted. Time will be allowed for Q and A with the presenter.

Getting Prepared for the MCAT

What Is a Master of Public Health (MPH)?
And how might it relate to your work as a physician? If you are interested in topics such as epidemiology and biostatistics, come learn about this nationally-ranked master's degree program and KU's new combined MD/MPH program!
Science + Medicine = MD/PhD
Learn about the School of Medicine's MD/PhD program and how it prepares highly-motivated students for careers as physician scientists in academic medicine and biomedical research.
The Non-Traditional Medical Student Panel
A panel of non-traditional medical students (e.g., those who have changed careers or who have children) will address these and similar issues of concern to non-traditional premedical students.
Physician Panel
These physicians will inform and encourage you as they offer glimpses into their daily activities.
What is Medical School Really Like?
Bring your questions to this session, and a panel of KU medical students will offer their experiences and perspectives.
