NEUROLOGY MATCH REPORT - January, 2003

The drops in registration and in the number of participants trying to match since 1999 appear to be leveling off. The decline is explained primarily by the decreased registration rate of international medical graduates. The number of U.S. Seniors matched rose from 168 in 1996 to 317 this year (highest ever on this 13 year chart). The number of vacancies left after the long match has remained below 50 for five consecutive years. Average Step one USMLE scores for those matched was 218 (215 is UMSLE national average). CAS participation continues to increase as more programs make CAS mandatory. Vacancies will be posted on our web site.
