How Faculty Order Textbooks
Order Early
Submit your book orders as soon as you can, but no later than October 15th for the Spring semester and March 15th for the Summer and Fall semesters. By getting your requisitions in on time, you not only allow the textbook manager ample time to search for used books, saving our students much needed $$$, it also gives her the opportunity to alert you of new editions or out of print situations. We conduct our “retail” buyback the entire months of May and December, so if we have your submissions, we can buy books from our students! (There's those $$$ signs again!!)
How to Order
Please go to the KUMC Bookstore website, www.kumedbooks.com and click on "Faculty Requisitions." The link will take you directly to the faculty web page login site. Click on the link to register and you'll see that it's a simple name, department, address, phone, email and password form. Once you do that, the information is retained and you'll never have to enter it again. After you’ve registered, you will be directed to the textbook requisition form.
To order books, you need to provide the following information:
Course Name, Number, Department
Your Name, Phone Number, Email
Author of Text
Title
ISBN Number
Number of Copies (required or recommended)
Used or New
A Note on Publisher Textbook Packages
Publishers are becoming more aggressive about marketing textbooks with CDs, Power Web cards, workbooks, and other "free" extras. (Anything beyond the textbook itself is considered a "package.") If the extra material is something you'll use in your class, these packages can be an easier way to get the necessary tools into the students' hands. If, however, you don't plan to use these extras, it can be frustrating for the students to have to buy them.
Publisher packages are often non-returnable, or have extremely punitive return policies, which increases the price for the students. Packages also make buyback more difficult-publishers will often assign a unique ISBN to the package-once the materials are opened, that ISBN is no longer used, and we are forced to buy back the components on an individual basis. If you are satisfied with just the textbook, let the bookstore know.
