The Biomedical Research Center is a $57.6 million project funded with both State bonds and private funds. The 5-story building will total 205,000 square feet, housing 80 separate laboratories and a world-class scientific conference center. It is scheduled to open in September 2006.

The University of Kansas Medical Center Research Institute is a private, not-for-profit corporation established to administratively promote and support medical research and related projects. The Research Institute, through its five Divisions, assists the faculty and staff to submit, negotiate, receive, and administer all extramurally funded endeavors, including basic and applied research, clinical trials, and service/support projects within the University of Kansas Medical Center and its affiliates. The overall major objective is to enhance the research capability of the University of Kansas Medical Center faculty for the benefit of the public.

The GCRC is the multidisciplinary research unit which facilitates investigator-initiated clinical studies. It provides a clinical research infrastructure to investigators who receive funding from federal agencies, private foundations, and other peer-reviewed sources. The GCRC also can facilitate investigator-initiated unfunded pilot studies that may lead to future NIH support.
