DON’T GET CITED!
Welcome to Campus! A bird’s eye MAP of our campus in Kansas City will help you acclimate to the buildings and services that comprise the KUMC community. For Wichita’s information you will need to check their website. Check out the KUMC VIRTUAL TOUR too. (If you have trouble, read the Virtual Tour Guide first.)
First, you will need to check in with your Chair as he or she may have already instructed. This VIRTUAL ORIENTATION is an overview of what someone in your Department may walk you through when you arrive, in addition to topics that may be of personal interest to you. Within the first couple of days you will need to get set up on benefits, get a parking sticker and photo ID Card, etc...
PAYROLL: Members of the faculty are paid according to the terms of their appointment. These issues will be discussed and explained at the time of your offer. Your Department Administrator can direct you to the appropriate office to sign up for payroll.
BENEFITS: KUMC Human Resources conduct a mandatory orientation filled with information http://www2.kumc.edu/hr/training/orientin.html for all state employees. The orientation is offered bi-weekly, on the first Monday of a state pay period. For Questions or to register you will need to contact HR at 913-588-5159. HR can assist or direct you with help regarding benefits for KUPI or the Hospital as well.
IDENTIFICATION CARD AND AFTER HOURS ACCESS: All Medical Center employees and students are issued identification cards. This card will also serve as your key to enter the Medical Center complex after hours and to enter certain secure areas 24/7. It is extremely important to safeguard your card. University policy states “All employees and students are required to wear proper identification badges.” New employees will have their pictures taken for employee ID badges at the conclusion of the mandatory orientation presentations, or by appointment. Call 913-588-5086.
KEYS:
Your Department Administrator will provide you with your necessary keys.
PARKING SERVICES:
Your Department Administrator will tell you where to park temporarily for your first couple of days. It would be nice if faculty could park in the most convenient spots on campus. With all the growth at the Medical Center and so much new construction going on, premium spots are limited. There is a waiting list for faculty/staff parking permits for the Blue Zones closest to the main campus. Additional parking spaces will be available in the parking structure associated with the new research building which should alleviate some of the shortage of parking on campus. If you are interested, please be sure to get your name on the waiting list when you apply for your Permanent Parking Permit and Sticker.
During your HR Orientation, a member of the Parking Services staff reviews information contained in the "Parking Policies and Procedures" brochure. Topics include: provisions for student, faculty, employee, and staff parking, general regulations, parking areas for patients, visitors, and special restricted areas, and permit fees for surface and garage parking lots. The brochure contains detailed information on these topics, plus a color-coded map of the employee permit parking areas. Should you wish to take care of this before you go through HR Orientation, Parking Services is located in the Support Services Facility Building north on Rainbow at 2100 W. 36th Ave. located behind the U.S. Post Office.
The contact number for Parking Services is 913-588-5175. KUMC has a free shuttle bus service that circles campus and outlying parking lots, and offers late night transportation to lots. See map for location of Support Services (Bldg #63), parking lots and shuttle runs.
