Shelley Gebar is a seasoned leader with more than 20 years experience in health care operations.

Gebar received a diploma in nursing at Western Pennsylvania Hospital, School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, and practiced for seven years before completing a bachelor's degree in management from Chatham College, Pittsburgh. She then earned a master's degree in public health from the Health Administration Program in the Graduate School of Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh.

Gebar's career in health care operations includes roles as vice president of operations for Presbyterian-University Hospital, Pittsburgh, and vice president of satellite operations and president of Allegheny Neuropsychiatric Institute, Pittsburgh. During her eight years of service for Allegheny University of the Health Sciences, Philadelphia, Gebar was chief executive officer of Medical College Hospitals, president and chief executive officer of Allegheny University Hospitals-Hahnemann and, ultimately, chief operations officer and vice dean for the School of Medicine. While with the School of Medicine, Gebar served under Barbara Atkinson, MD, who then was dean and is now executive dean of the University of Kansas School of Medicine.

Before beginning her new appointment at the KU School of Medicine in September 2002, Gebar was executive director of Ophthalmic Partners of PA and chief executive office of the Mainline Surgery Center in Philadelphia.

Gebar has served as a board member and executive committee member of the University HealthSystem Consortium and as a diplomat for ACHE.
