Faculty Governance Academic Committee


The Academic Committee and its three subcommittees are concerned with the academic development of students, in particular the criteria and processes governing selection, progression, and graduation of students in the School of Medicine.

Membership

The 14 elected faculty members must each be members of one of the three subcommittees. No more than two faculty members of a single department may serve simultaneously.

  • six from basic science departments in Kansas City
  • six from clinical departments in Kansas City
  • two from the Wichita campus - Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Associate Dean for Cultural Affairs and Diversity (non-voting)
  • Assistant Dean for Admissions (non-voting)
  • three medical students from the Kansas City campus
  • one medical student from the Wichita campus

(Student members must be one from the first year, one from the second year and one from the third or fourth years. One student must serve on each of the three subcommittees but may not vote on issues concerning individual students).

Duties

The Academic Committee receives and takes action on matters referred to it by its subcommittees. The Academic Committee makes its recommendations on matters related to individual students to the Executive Dean. Recommendations on policies and procedures are made to the Executive Committee.

Process

Regular scheduled meetings and additional meetings as required.
