The following steps should be followed by faculty members who wish to be supported for promotion or promotion with tenure by the Department of Internal Medicine.
The year you go up for promotion may vary based upon your track and approved leave extensions, however, the schedule below remains the same.)

- Update Curriculum Vitae (must be in SOM Format before taking the next step)
- Between February and April make appointment to visit with Dr. Robert Klein and Jo Halverson (PDFA) about promotion

Spring - Attend one of the Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs (PDFA) P&T Informational Seminars on the Promotion &Tenure process, offered in the Spring. Contact Jo Halverson, Director of PDFA for the schedule. If your department has a designated staff member who assists in the preparation of your documents, he/she is also encouraged to attend one of the training sessions. See SOM “Submission Checklist” for complete list of required documents.
- Before May 1 – Make an appointment to discuss with the Chair of Internal Medicine your intention to go up for promotion six months before the application deadline of October 1.
- No later than June 1 - complete and submit appropriate online Letter of Intent Form for promotion and tenure.. Contact Jo Halverson in the Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs for the link to the current form.
- August 10 - Department P&T Application is Due
- September 1 - Receive verification of the Department Promotion & Tenure Committee's support or non-support of your application .
- October 1 – Electronic Promotion &Tenure Application is due, as well as one paper copy (see current School of Medicine timeline.)
- Complete and submit one copy of your entire application for promotion and/or tenure to Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs (On-line submission by 5:00 p.m.)
- Each application must contain the following documents:
