School of Medicine Promotion and/or Tenure Recommendations

By first week in June Call for applications for academic promotion and/or award of tenure (Executive Dean)
June 1, 2011 Applicants must complete and submit appropriate online Letter of Intent form. Access to the Letter of Intent forms will be denied at 5:00 pm, CDT, June 1, 2011.
During September Conduct orientation session for Joint Promotion and Tenure Committee .
September 1, 2011 Deadline for Department P&T Committees to meet.
Monday
October 3, 2011		 Deadline for completed applications to be received by Office of Professional Development and Faculty Affairs (Kansas City faculty) or Academic & Student Affairs (Wichita faculty). Access to your online submission site will be denied at 5:00 pm, CDT, October 3, 2011.
By mid-December Complete reviews by campus committees
By January 1, 2012 Complete reviews by joint committee: submit recommendations to Executive Dean.
Late January Executive Dean reviews School of Medicine Promotion and Tenure recommendations
February 3, 2012 A list of recommendations and denials is forwarded from Executive Dean to the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
February 3, 2012 Denial Letters: Individual faculty members who have been denied at the School level, must be informed in writing by the Executive Dean (with a copy to Academic Affairs) that they have the right to appeal the decision. The appeal must be filed by the faculty member within two weeks of notification by the Executive Dean.
February 17, 2012 Appeal Deadline: 5:00 p.m. Faculty members may file a procedural appeal with the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. (See Handbook for Faculty...III.Part 6.D.2 -- page 93)
As soon as possible after February 17, 2012 Appeal Hearings for denial of promotion and tenure.
Dependent on Appeal Hearing Schedule Executive Vice Chancellor forwards recommendation list to the Chancellor for final approval.
Dependent on Appeal Hearing Schedule Chancellor either approves or denies individual recommendations and communicates decisions to the EVC who in turn notifies individual faculty members in writing with copy to Department Chair (and Dean on Wichita campus, when applicable). Promotion and/or tenure becomes effective with the new FY 11 beginning July 1, 2012.

Chancellor forwards the approved list of faculty members receiving promotion and/or tenure to the Board of Regents for the regular Board Meeting in May.
