Detailed Protocol for Conducting Chairperson Review

The Final Report and Actions

The vast majority of chairperson reviews will result in commendations or recommendations for changes in emphasis in the department and little or no change in personnel. It is important that the review process strengthen the department, rather than to leave a legacy of resentment or suspicion.

The Review Committee shall submit to the Executive Dean a summary document which will be derived from a collation of the facts and opinions obtained from faculty questionnaires and letters, interviews of faculty and other individuals, and from those portions of the written self-study report of the chairperson. This Review Committee report will be considered by the Executive Dean along with any other information available and a final report will be generated by the Executive Dean.

The Executive Dean shall advise the faculty of the department of the general nature of the summary document submitted by the Review Committee and any significant changes which are planned for the Department.

The Executive Dean will meet and discuss with the reviewed chairperson all aspects of the review along with whatever recommendations for change may be appropriate. Working goals and objectives shall be agreed upon by the Executive Dean and the chairperson, and to the maximum extent possible will be shared with the department. The chairperson and Executive Dean shall schedule a meeting six months after completion of the review at which time progress made in resolving any cited concerns will be evaluated.

The final report will be shared with the Executive Vice Chancellor.
