Responsibilities of Chairperson Being Reviewed
SOM HomeThe review will consist of several distinct parts and will be initiated by the Executive Dean who will notify in writing the chairperson who is to be reviewed. This notification shall include a description of the role of the chairperson vis a vis the review and shall establish the dates for completion of each portion of the review.
The Executive Dean shall request the Executive Committee of the Medical Faculty to appoint a Review Committee for each chair to be reviewed. Upon receipt of this request the Executive shall establish a Chair Review Nomination Subcommittee drawn from members of the Executive Committee of the Medical Faculty. The Chair Review Subcommittee shall consist of two basic science faculty, two clinical science faculty, and a representative of the Chairs. The Chair Review Subcommittee will develop a proposed committee for each Chair to be reviewed, including a proposed Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for each review committee, who shall have agreed to serve in this capacity. It is important that the Executive Dean have significant input in constituting Chair Review Committees. As Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Medical Faculty, he/she is able to offer input regarding appropriate constitution of Chair Review Committees and to request that the Executive Committee make appropriate revisions to ensure a fair and unbiased review. The Executive Committee shall then make any changes deemed appropriate and appoint the members of the Chair Review Committee, including a Chair and Vice Chair. The Vice Chair shall serve as the liaison between the department and the committee for the purpose of supplying pertinent information and/or opinions to the review committee. In the event that the Chair is, for whatever reasons, unable to complete the review in a timely fashion, the Vice Chair, with the approval of the Executive Committee of the Medical Faculty, will assume the responsibility for the completion of the review.
Each Chair Review Committee shall consist of seven faculty members (Chairpersons shall not serve on Chair Review Committees) representing each rank above instructor to be selected from other departments, one former graduate student or house staff from the department who has served in the department within the last five years, and one alumnus who has graduated from KUMC within the last five years. A minimum of five of the faculty members serving on the Chair Review Committee shall have achieved tenure.
