Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)History ERAS in 1995/96 was used only for those students who were applying to Obstetrics and Gynecology programs, which numbered ten at KUMC. The number of OB/GYN programs participating in ERAS for 1996/97 increased to approximately 94%, as well as for the first time the Army Match Program joined ERAS for all specialties. For the 1997/98 cycle, Family Medicine, Radiology, Emergency Medicine, Orthopaedic Surgery and Transitional programs also joined ERAS. In 1998/99, Combined Programs in Internal Medicine/Emergency Medicine and Internal Medicine/Family Medicine and Preliminary and Categorical Programs in Internal Medicine joined. The 1999/2000 added Pediatrics, Combined Medicine/Pediatrics and Pediatrics/Emergency Medicine and General Surgery. Psychiatry, Pathology, Dermatology, Anesthesiology and Combined Internal Medicine/Psychiatry were added in 2000/2001. The only residency programs not using ERAS are Otolaryngology, Urological Surgery, Ophthalmology and Dermatology. The Army and the Navy also use ERAS to receive their applications. What you need to know and do
How much does ERAS cost? ERAS 2006 Application Fees
The National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) charges a flat $50 fee to U.S. applicants who request transmission of scores to programs, regardless of the number of transcripts requested. The NBME fee is included on your invoice and collected by AAMC. Go to the ERAS website http://www.aamc.org/students/eras/feesbilling/start.htm for more detailed information. Any difficulties that you encounter with the process or questions that you might have should be directed to Vicki Syrus, Coordinator, Office of Student Affairs.
