Applying to Medical School
Applicants who choose the AMCAS Early Decision Program (EDP), have the opportunity
to apply and interview for admission before the regular selection process
begins. EDP applicants must take the MCAT by July 18th* and are strongly
encouraged to have application materials to AMCAS by July 1. A 3.5 cumulative
grade point average and an MCAT score of 28 are suggested for EDP applicants.
AMCAS only releases a candidate's application to one medical school for early
consideration. If accepted, the EDP applicant must either attend that medical
school or choose not to attend medical school in the coming year. KU EDP
applicants who are not accepted through the EDP are automatically placed
in the School's regular decision pool and may then choose to have AMCAS release
their applications to other medical schools. Early decision interviews are
conducted in September. Notifications of admission are sent by October 1.
Applicants who choose the regular decision process can submit their AMCAS applications until October 15. September 1 is strongly encouraged. Regular decision interviews will be held between October and February. Notifications of admission usually are sent in early March.
AMCAS applications that indicate the student is interested in attaining
a combined MD/PhD degree are forwarded to the Office of Graduate Studies
for committee review. Generally, successful candidates have a 3.5 science
grade point average, an MCAT score of 30 and strong research experience.Interested
applicants may submit their applications until November 15. October 15 is
strongly encouraged. The Office of Graduate Studies will communicate with
applicants regarding their MD/PhD applications. Notifications of admission
usually are sent in early March.
