Jim Albertson is the chief financial officer of KUPI and senior associate dean for finance at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, with more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare field as a CPA, CFO of a hospital, healthcare attorney and a medical business consultant.

After graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1970 with a degree in Business Administration, Albertson served as a CPA with Laventhal and Horwarth in Kansas City, Mo. In 1973, Albertson became the CFO of St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center in Topeka, Kan., and served there until 1981. While at St. Francis, Albertson was an adjunct professor for two years at Kansas State University, teaching classes in health care financial management.

In 1983, Albertson earned his MBA from the University of Kansas and then went on to the Washburn School of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1985. From 1985 to 1995, Albertson practiced law and held Partner and Of Counsel status with firms, most recently Stinson Morrison Hecker, LLP. From 1995 to 2004, he was affiliated with the national consulting firm of ProSTAT Resource Group. He served as director and in-house counsel to ProSTAT Resource Group.

Albertson is a member of the American Health Lawyers Association, the Missouri and Kansas Bars, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and Healthcare Financial Management Association. From HFMA, he received the William G. Follmer Merit Award and was designated a Fellow. He was an associate editor of the Washburn Law Review and a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, National Scholastic Honor Society in Business.

Albertson has written articles on topics ranging from tax strategies to governance of PHOs, to antitrust to managed care contracting and negotiations. He has also been asked to speak on similar topics in most every state to medical societies at places ranging from the University of Miami, Arizona University, Texas Tech, Yale University, the Association of Northern California Oncologists, and South Dakato HFMA, and to specialties ranging from Anesthesiology, Urology, Oncology, Orthopedics, Family Medicine, ENT, and Internal Medicine.
