Additional accomplishments include:

  • Very successful site visit in October 2019. The Review Committee commended the program for its demonstrated substantial compliance with the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) program requirements and/or institutional requirements without any citations. "Commended" and "substantial" are verbiage reserved for excellently performing programs and used sparingly by the RCC.
  • Doximity Residency Program Rankings: #22 overall, #10 amongst public universities, #5 for public universities with VA and pediatric hospitals associated with the program.

The goal of the staff of the Department of Urology is to train residents to become physicians proficient in both the surgical and nonsurgical aspects of urology. With an intensive surgical experience, our graduating residents are confident and well prepared for their future practice. Just as important is a solid nonoperative clinic experience, which prepares our residents for complicated diagnostic problems encountered in the ambulatory setting.

We accept four residents per year for a total training period of five years. Residents are actively involved in clinical and basic research and our goal is for the resident to use the skills learned from this investigative approach so they can be involved in life-long learning and continuing medical education. We also aspire to prepare residents for excellence in the competencies put forward by ACGME, including patient care, medical knowledge, practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, professionalism and systems-based practice.
