Q. How do I apply to the residency program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine?

A. You must apply through ERAS, the Electronic Residency Application Service from the Association of American Medical College (AAMC).  

Q. When is the application deadline?

A. The application deadline is October 1 of the academic year prior to the match. We will be reviewing applications and scheduling interviews as early as mid-October.  

Q. What are the typical interview dates?

A. We will interview on Wednesdays and Saturdays beginning in October through December.  We will offer five interview dates to those selected for interviews.  The interviews will be scheduled on a first-come basis.  

Q. What is USMLE cut off score?

A. There is no definitive cutoff score. The cutoff for Step 1 and Step 2 varies based on the National Residency Match Program (NRMP) average per year. However, we do review and consider the entire application.  

Q. How many Letters of Recommendation do you require?

A. We require three letters, preferably from surgeons.  

Q. Do you have a cutoff for the year of medical school graduation?

A. Yes. We will only accept residents who have graduated medical school within two years of beginning residency.  

Q. How many residents do you plan to accept this recruitment year?

A. 5  

Q. How many applicants do you plan to interview?

A. About 90.  

Q. How long is the interview day?

A. 8 a.m. to approximately 2:00 p.m.  

Q. Is lodging provided the night before the interview?

A. Lodging is not provided for the evening prior to the interview.  There is a Holiday Inn Express directly across from the medical center.
