Dr. Kumer received his surgical training at the University of Michigan and his fellowship training in transplant surgery at the University of Virginia. He joined the faculty at the University of Virginia where he continued his clinical, academic, and research interests in abdominal transplantation as well as benign and malignant hepatopancreaticobiliary (HPB) surgical diseases and conditions.
He joined the University of Kansas within the Division of Transplant Surgery in 2011. He remains active as a transplant surgeon and serves as the Surgical Director of Liver Transplantation. He maintains an active interest in HPB diseases and conditions.
He also serves as the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery Residency as well as the Fellowship Director for the Transplant Surgery fellowship.
