After completing medical school at the Kabul University in Afghanistan, Dr. Nawabi entered the United States to finish his General Surgery Residency at Louisiana State University Medical School in Shreveport (LSUHSC). Upon completing his residency in 2006, he entered a fellowship program in Liver, Kidney and Pancreas Transplant and Hepato-Pancreato- Biliary Surgery at Cedar Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles from 2006 to 2008.

Dr. Nawabi joined the faculty at the University of Kansas Medial Center in November 2008. His specialty is liver, kidney and pancreas transplants as well as complex hepato- pancreato-biliary surgery. He also performs complex laparoscopic surgeries including living donor nephrectomies. He is a member of prominent national societies, including the American College of Surgeons and the International College of Surgeons.

In his "spare time," Dr. Nawabi enjoys spending time with his family, playing soccer, and engaging in his routine work out at the gym.
