Breast Imaging Fellowship Applicants

About the Program

The Department of Radiology at the University of Kansas School of Medicine, in conjunction with the University of Kansas Hospital, is pleased to offer a one-year fellowship position in Breast Imaging at the Annette Bloch Cancer Center. The fellowship length is one year, beginning on July 1 and ending on June 30.

Fellows will receive training in mammography (including digital tomosynthesis), breast ultrasound, automated breast ultrasound for screening (ABUS), and breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Fellows will also receive instruction in a wide array of image-guided interventional techniques, including stereotaxic biopsy (both upright and prone table), ultrasound guided breast biopsy, MRI guided breast biopsy, needle localization, and radioactive seed localization.

Required attendance at weekly multidisciplinary breast cancer conferences, along with weekly radiology/pathology conferences for discussion of benign breast biopsy results provides a wealth of opportunity for the fellow to be proficient in correlation and management of breast biopsy results and patient care.

The fellow is required to participate in research with assistance provided by our KU radiology research team. Lastly, optional rotations in breast pathology, medical, surgical, and radiation oncology provide opportunity to gain additional experience in related areas of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The Annette Bloch Cancer Center, along with the University of Kansas Medical Center and Hospital is NCI designated, and treats greater than 1,200 breast cancer patients per year. With superb, cutting edge equipment in digital (2D/3D) mammography, breast ultrasound, automated breast ultrasound, MRI, interventional techniques, and breast conferences (both benign and malignant), fellows will have a comprehensive experience.

Our fellowship program selects one fellow each year. Applicants must successfully complete an ACGME-accredited Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and pass all Board examinations from the American Board of Radiologists.  We will be participating in the NRMP match.  The NRMP rank number will be given to you on interview day.
