Radiation Oncology Residency Application Process

Prospective residents may apply during the fall of their fourth year in medical school or in their PGY1 year (preferably the former). An applicant who successfully interviews during their fourth year of medical school will be offered a position at the PGY2 level with the stipulation that they must complete the required PGY1 training program (such as a rotating or flexible internship) at KUMC or another accredited institution.

Please refer to the University of Kansas Institutional Policy for Residency Eligibility, Equal Opportunity and Nondiscrimination Statement prior to applying.

Step 1:  Apply

Application Deadline: October 31
Apply Online: Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS)
Additional Required Materials: (Submit Through ERAS)

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Personal Statement
  • Graduate Transcripts
  • USMLE Results

Step 2: Interview

After an application receives a favorable review, the Committee requests a personal interview with the prospective trainee. Interviews are given by invitation only and are scheduled in three to four interview sessions on selected dates from November through January. One or two PGY-2 positions are filled annually, and 30-40 applicants are interviewed for these positions.

Applicants will have dinner with current residents on the evening before the interview day. On the day of the interview, applicants will have a 15 minute group discussion with the Department Chair and the Program Director. They will also have a tour of the Department and Hospital facility. The applicant will then interview with the Committee individually.
