Monica Kurylo, Ph.D., ABPP, is a professor and director of neurorehabilitation psychology at the University of Kansas Medical Center, where she has appointments in the Departments of Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine. She joined the faculty in 2005.
In addition to receiving her doctorate degree in clinical psychology (health/rehabilitation emphases) at the University of Kansas, Dr. Kurylo has internship and postdoctoral experience in rehabilitation psychology and neuropsychology. She is board certified in rehabilitation psychology through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP).
As the director of neurorehabilitation psychology services and program director for the neurorehabilitation psychology fellowship at KU Medical Center, Dr. Kurylo provides inpatient and outpatient evaluation and treatment services as well as consults as a member of the interdisciplinary treatment teams in rehabilitation, burn and trauma. She also provides administrative leadership, didactic and experiential training, and supervision for doctoral practicum graduate students, doctoral interns, and postdoctoral fellows in psychology, as well as provides supervision and didactic training for psychiatry medical residents along with didactic training for rehabilitation medicine residents.
Dr. Kurylo is co-director for the KU-Lawrence health psychology major and Leadership Team coordinator/primary supervisor for the health psychology practicum at KU Medical Center for the KU-Lawrence clinical psychology graduate students. She is a member of the Appointments, Promotions, and Tenure Committee in the School of Medicine and the Promotions and Tenure Committees for both Psychiatry and Rehabilitation Medicine Departments in Kansas City.
Dr. Kurylo is president of Division 31 (State, Provincial, and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs), past president of the Kansas Psychological Association (KPA), and a member of the LP Advisory Committee to the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board (BSRB). She serves on the Advisory Committee of the Leadership Institute for Women in Psychology (LIWP) of the American Psychological Association (APA), and is the Chair of the Program and Faculty Development Subcommittee and the Ad-hoc Selection Subcommittee. In addition, she is secretary of the Academy of Rehabilitation Psychology and a representative from Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) to the APA Council of Representatives.
A former member of the APA Commission on Accreditation who chaired the Postdoctoral Policy Group for CoA, Dr. Kurylo currently is a program review consultant to the CoA. She is a member of APA Divisions 31 (State, Provincial and Territorial Psychological Association Affairs), 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology), 38 (Health), 40 (Neuropsychology), 35 (Society for Women) and 12 (Clinical Psychology). Dr. Kurylo also holds membership in Section 8 in Division 12 (Association of Psychologists in Academic Health Centers (APAHC)), the Kansas Psychological Association, the Academy of Rehabilitation Psychology, and Women in Medicine and Science (WIMS) at KU Medical Center.
