Research Interests

Nicotine Dependence and Smoking Cessation

My primary research area is in cancer prevention and control with a focus on nicotine dependence and smoking cessation among underserved and understudied populations. These include African Americans, American Indians and hospitalized patients. I am also involved in research capacity building in developing countries. I am currently working on the following projects:

Teaching

My teaching activities span through the schools of medicine, nursing and health professions in the areas of epidemiology, research methodology, evidenced-based public health, international health and public health in developing countries. My instructional techniques are geared toward igniting students' enthusiasm for learning, promoting self-directed learning environment and inculcating the culture of lifelong learning.
