Professional Background:

My clinical and research focus stem from my interest in wound healing. I apply Plastic Surgery principles to aid and optimize healing of wounds. I provide care for wounds of diverse etiologies and complexity and collaborate with specialists from other disciplines. As a Co-director of the KU Burn Center, I help build a collaborative multidisciplinary program to provide the best care possible for our burn patients. I emphasize on holistic care for my patients and remain involved in the care of burn victims from the day of injury to reintegration. My broad training and experience allows me to offer care options during all stages of injury and recovery. Scar management and laser treatment were natural extensions of my involvement in burn and wound care. I have been performing laser treatment for scars and skin rejuvenation for almost 10 years. My research interests naturally aligned with my clinical focus. My research work focuses on understanding the effects of burn injuries on scar formation, function, and ability to return to work. I investigate how injury characteristics affect scar formation and whether modifications can be made through healing process to reduce or prevent scar formation.
