The faculty of the Department of Plastic Surgery provides clinical services in virtually all areas of plastic surgery, including reconstructive surgery, aesthetic surgery, post-bariatric surgery, wound care and cleft palate and craniofacial procedures.
Review our services below and call for an appointment or evaluation.
Children with cleft lips and palates and related congenital anomalies are evaluated in the Cleft and Craniofacial Clinic. Required surgical procedures are provided by the plastic surgeon on the team at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Speech, hearing, orthodontic and social issues are coordinated either locally or in the child's local community. Children are followed from birth to adulthood to assure that everything possible is done to facilitate these children becoming fully functional adults.
Craniofacial/Cleft team evaluations are conducted at the Sutherland Institute. The evaluation generally includes assessments by a plastic surgeon, speech pathologist, orthodontist, audiologist, social worker, and nurse. After each team member has evaluated all patients attending the clinic on a given day, the team members meet and present their findings to each other. A coordinated, comprehensive treatment plan is generated for each patient that summarizes each team member's findings. A formal report is sent to the patient's local health care providers and to each family.

The Plastic Surgery faculty members feel that breast reconstruction is an essential component of the comprehensive care of women with breast cancer. Drs. Available techniques include tissue expansion and breast implants, latissimus dorsi flaps, TRAM flaps and free flaps including DIEP, SIEP and TUGS.
The pros and cons of each of the options is discussed in a preoperative consultation so that the procedure that best meets the needs of the individual patient can be provided. Immediate breast reconstruction after mastectomy, if appropriate and desired, can often be coordinated with oncologic surgeons at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Individuals that have lost massive amounts of weight through dieting or bariatric surgery frequently have both functional and aesthetic problems related to redundant soft tissue. A variety of procedures are available to remove excess tissue from the face, arms, breast, trunk and legs. Drs. Korentager, Hendrix, De Souza, Ponnuru, Bhavsar, Pryzlecki and Holding all provide these services.
The optimization of form and function is an important goal for individuals with deformities related to trauma, congenital deformities or the surgical treatment of cancer or other problems. Ourl provide general reconstructive procedures.
Drs.
