The COBRE grant supports 5 junior faculty at any one given time with their ‘Project’ of doing research and helping them write and submit an R01 grant to the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Tom Pazdernik, Ph.D. All Junior Faculty are mentored in teaching by Tom Pazdernik, Ph.D.
Dr. Pazdernik has been at KUMC since 1973. He is currently a Chancellor’s Teaching Professor and devotes most of his time to teaching. His past research interests have focused on the effects of drugs and chemicals on brain function and structure using quantitative computer-assisted analysis to study local cerebral glucose utilization and employing a variety of approaches to understand the role of reactive oxygen species in causing brain damage. He is also interested understanding the role of "limbic sensitization" in relationship to CNS disorders. He currently spends most of my efforts in maintaining and developing the Departments computer-based education program to support the education of medical students and other health professionals.
