Adolescent Medicine

Group of teenagers

The specialty of adolescent medicine addresses the unique health care needs of children entering their teen years through adulthood.

We often refer to our children ages 12-21 as young adults, but medically speaking adolescents are not little adults, and they are not big children either. It is important that your child's physician understand the physical, emotional, cognitive and social changes that adolescents undergo during these years as well as the disease processes that occur during adolescence.

Dr. Lore Nelson with the University of Kansas Physicians Pediatric department is one of the few adolescent medicine specialists in the Greater Kansas City area.

Our services for adolescents address the following health needs:

  • Sports exams
  • Acne
  • ADD
  • Behavioral
  • Menstrual issues
  • Birth control
  • STI diagnosis and treatment
  • Routine health care
  • Immunizations
