Academic and Professionalism Subcommittees

Admissions Subcommittee

The Admissions Subcommittee prepares the ranked list of prospective students for the incoming class, and makes recommendations to the Academic Committee about the conduct of the admissions process.
Membership

• Four faculty members elected from the Kansas City campus
• Two faculty members elected from the Wichita campus
• Two medical students – One from the Wichita campus, one from the Kansas City campus.
• Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Recruitment (non-voting)
• Associate Dean for Cultural Enhancement and Diversity (non-voting)

Duties

• Appointing faculty members to the Selection Panel
• Recommending students for admission to the School of Medicine
• Proposing changes in the admissions criteria or processes.

Process

The Committee shall meet on an as needed basis.

Student Promotions and Special Programs Subcommittee

The Student Promotions and Special Programs Subcommittee is concerned with ensuring students meet the standards for academic performance required by the School of Medicine. The Student Promotions and Special Programs Subcommittee also considers and makes recommendations to the Academic and Professionalism Committee concerning requests from students to follow a course of study different from the established curriculum.

Membership

• Eight elected faculty members
• Two medical students
• Associate Dean for Student Affairs (non-voting)
• Associate Dean for Cultural Affairs and Diversity (non-voting)

Duties

• Review the grades of all medical students at the completion of each teaching unit
• Review the academic record of any student having academic difficulties and submit a written recommendation to be reviewed by the Academic and Professionalism Committee for further recommendation to be forwarded to Executive Dean.
• Recommend to the Academic and Professionalism Committee those students who have satisfactorily completed Phase I of the Curriculum for promotion to Phase II;
• Recommend to the Executive Dean, through the Academic and Professionalism Committee, the list of students proposed for graduation;
• Review and make recommendations to Academic and Professionalism Committee concerning student special program requests and define the standards for satisfactory completion of Special Programs.
• Review and make recommendations concerning any matters of professionalism for review by the Academic and Professionalism Committee.

Process

The Subcommittee shall meet on an as needed basis.
