Academic and Professionalism Committee

The Academic and Professionalism Committee and its three subcommittees are concerned with the academic development of students, in particular:

  • Criteria and processes governing selection,
  • Progression, and
  • Graduation of students in the School of Medicine.

Membership

The 14 elected faculty members must each be members of one of the three subcommittees. No more than two faculty members of a single department may serve simultaneously.

  • Six faculty from basic science departments in Kansas City
  • Six faculty from clinical departments in Kansas City
  • Two faculty from the Wichita campus
  • Associate Dean for Student Affairs (non-voting)
  • Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (non-voting)
  • Associate Dean for Cultural Affairs and Diversity (non-voting)
  • Assistant Dean for Admissions and Student Recruitment(non-voting)
  • Three medical students from the Kansas City campus*
  • One medical student from the Wichita campus

*Student members must be one from the first year, one from the second year and one from the third or fourth years. One student must serve on each of the three subcommittees but may not vote on issues concerning individual students.

Duties

The Academic and Professionalism Committee receives and takes action on matters referred to it by its subcommittees. The Academic and Professionalism Committee makes its recommendations on matters related to individual students to the Executive Dean. Recommendations on policies are made to Faculty Council and recommendations related to procedures are made to the Executive Committee.

Process

The Academic and Professionalism Committee shall meet on a regular basis with a schedule established at a meeting in September. Additional meetings will be held as needed.
