Overview of Training
We offer a four-year combined AP/CP program or a three-year program in either AP or CP only. The AP/CP program consists of a 42-month core program consisting of 23 months of AP, 19 months of CP. The faculty works with the residents to design an elective program that will provide a sound educational experience in the resident's chosen area of concentration, as well as to flexibly adapt to the resident's level of expertise and career goals. During the elective time residents are encouraged to spend time carrying out basic or applied research and/or time pursuing subspecialty training.
We encourage residents to elect a combined program in AP/CP because we feel that there is a considerable overlap between many of the traditional areas of anatomic pathology and laboratory medicine. We also feel that residents with combined board certification have more flexible future career options.
