How to Apply

Our goal is to find honest, hard-working individuals with a positive attitude, team-first approach, and good communication skills. We welcome all applicants. How well you fit the above criteria is more important to us than where you went to medical school or what your board scores were, but international medical graduates must have an ECFMG certificate, and we strongly recommend USMLE step scores above 200. Residents are exclusively selected through the National Residency Matching Program.

Applications should be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service. They are reviewed on a rolling basis  until November 15. Selected applicants will be offered an interview at the University of Kansas Hospital. Kansas City is located in the center of the country and is readily accessible from Kansas City International Airport, Interstates I-70, I-35, I-29, and I-49, and Amtrak.

The department provides a one-night hotel stay for out-of-state applicants at the Holiday Inn Express directly across the street from the KU Medical Center. KU Medical Center is located at 3901 Rainbow Boulevard and includes the University of Kansas Hospital, University of Kansas schools of Medicine, Nursing and Allied Health.

Interviews are scheduled for Saturdays on October 26th, November 23rd, and December 14th. We find Saturday interviews are easiest to fit into fourth year medical students’ schedules, and it allows us to focus our attention on you without the distractions of daily work. All interviewees are invited to join some of our residents for dinner the Friday night preceding their interview. There are no faculty at the dinner, which gives applicants an opportunity to interact more freely with our residents in a less formal atmosphere. The Holiday Inn Express provides a complimentary breakfast Saturday morning, and lunch is provided at the Hospital during the Saturday interviews.

Interviewees are divided into two groups for Saturday interviews. A sample schedule is below:
