Research Focus

Inherited mutations in the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are the main risk of breast cancer for women. We have shown that allelic imbalance of these genes is associated with increased breast cancer risk and have demonstrated that SNPs other than deleterious coding mutations may contribute to breast cancer. We are exploring the relevance of SNPs in 3’-UTR of BRCA1 and BRCA2 with the incidence of breast cancer. We also initiate studies to identify proteomic markers of benign breast disease and DCIS that can be used to better predict a woman’s risk of developing invasive breast cancer.
