The Department provides vital patient services to the Hospital, Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area and outlying medical facilities through our Laboratory Medicine Services.  Faculty are board-accredited and the department provides a full spectrum of subspecialized expertise including Chemistry, Cytogenetics, Hematopathology and Flow Cytolometry, Transfusion Services and Medical Microbiology and Immunology . The clinical laboratory processes over 2.5 million samples per year and is in the process of updating its robotic automation (see department Chair Dr. Lowell Tilzer in Robotic Laboratory above). Our laboratory is accredited by the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), College of American Pathologists (CAP) and Foundation for the Accreditation of Cellular Therapy (FACT).
