The department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery has slowly expanded our relationships with Affiliate Hospitals over the last 15 years. Our longstanding presence at the Kansas City Veterans Affairs Medical Center is now complemented by four additional hospitals. Each of these hospitals provides support for faculty and resident positions and offers a unique environment for patient care and resident education. We would like to recognize the significant contribution of these institutions to the success of our Department.
Children's Mercy Hospital
This free standing full service tertiary care hospital in downtown Kansas City, MO is dedicated to the care of pediatric patients in the region. While CMH has an academic affiliation with the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine, our department at KU is the majority provider of Pediatric Otolaryngology care. Our six Pediatric Otolaryngologist's, one resident and the new Fellow in Pediatric Otolaryngology all practice in this very rich and unique environment caring for the sickest kids in the region.
Children's Mercy Hospital South
This new expansion facility of CMH in south Johnson County, Kansas provides more basic pediatric services to the surrounding area. Clinic facilities and an outpatient surgery center are utilized by most of our Pediatric Otolaryngology faculty and the Fellow.
Saint Luke's Hospital on the Plaza
The main hospital of the St. Luke's system of hospitals is a tertiary care private not-for-profit facility. Two of our core faculty members (Drs. Larsen and Humphrey) work closely with clinical faculty (Drs. Guastello and Spake) to train a senior level resident in their only exposure to the private practice environment.
Truman Medical Center
Located in downtown Kansas City, Truman Medical Center is the primary safety-net hospital for Kansas City, MO. It is also the primary teaching hospital for the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Medicine. We serve as the providers of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery care for UMKC/TMC, working closely with the students at that institution. Dr. Ann Robinson, Chief of the service is accompanied by Lynn Roh, MD, David Beahm, MD, and Jim Lin, MD in supervising a mid-level resident in this important inner city experience.
