Bruce – Grateful Patient of Dr. Larsen

Sinus Surgery
In September 2008, I noticed that I was having difficulty tasting food and smelling common things like coffee brewing in the morning.
I went to my primary care physician. After examining me, he thought it might be some sort of chronic sinus infection and prescribed antibiotics and nasal spray. After a few weeks the treatment seemed to help, however when stopped, the condition came back and was worse.
I was referred to Dr. Larsen for a consultation. I was familiar with Dr. Larsen from a previous appointment for an ear problem and was pleased it was him since I had a good experience with that issue.
From the time I stepped into Dr. Larsen's office, I was treated as if I was their only patient for the day. Dr. Larsen examined me and decided surgery was needed. Most of my nasal cavity was blocked, presumably from previous sinus infections.
Surgery was an outpatient procedure performed at KU Med West. The facility is conveniently located with a great staff. Surgery went well, although longer than anticipated. Dr. Larsen found a little more blockage than previously thought. The recovery time was very short and less uncomfortable than I thought it would be.
After a week, I had a follow-up appointment with Dr. Larsen and already smelled and tasted things I hadn't in years. Evidently, losing these senses had been a slow enough process that I didn't realize how bad the problem had become.
I am extremely pleased with the outcome of my surgery, and am grateful to Dr. Larsen and his staff for helping me enjoy the smells and tastes of everyday life once again.
