Karen completed her BSN, from the University of Kansas in 1978 and her MSN as Pediatric nurse practitioner from University of Missouri-Kansas city in 1999.  She is a board certified PNP by ANCC.  Karen joined the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck surgery at the University of Kansas medical Center in September of 2009. She is responsible for providing routine and urgent care to new and established pediatric patients primarily at the KU Med West location.

Starting as a pediatric nurse in the pediatric intensive care unit at KUMC, Karen attained a wide variety of experience.  She then took on a management role in the maternal child unit at SMMC and later developed and managed a successful maternal child home care program for the hospital.  She has worked as a nurse practitioner in asthma and allergy and general pediatrics before joining the pediatric otolaryngology team at KUMC.  

Karen is an active national speaker and is continuously involved in professional and community education in a variety of different subjects.  She has special interest and experience with breast feeding, remediation of infant feeding disorders, GERD, asthma, and pediatric ENT issues.

In addition to enjoying her role as PNP, Karen is actively involved in her family, children, and grand- children and enjoys working on her golf game.  She is aware first hand of parental issues and concerns.
