Dr. Garimella is responsible for building a strong basic science research program and mentoring graduate student research towards the MS or PhD degree in the Department of D&N. She teaches Nutritional Biochemistry to our entry-level graduate students and will be responsible for teaching DN 885 (Nutritional Biochemistry). She is also devleoping a new course on Laboratory Techniques in Nutrition Research (DN 912) with Dr. Leidy, which will be taught by Dietetics and Nutrition faculty. She is also an Adjunct Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

Dr. Garimella is the author of twelve peer reviewed research papers and over ten published abstracts. She has presented her research at national and international scientific meetings.

Research Focus
Research is focused upon bone and cartilage biology, mineralization, matrix vesicles proteomics, and skeletal repair at the Bone Research Laboratory. Current projects include study into the role of bone morphogenetic proteins in skeletal cell differentiation and functions. Also engaged in pathophysiology of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis and other bone remodeling disorders as well as research into the role of bioactive dietary factors (curcumin), and vitamins (vitamin D) in modulating osteosarcoma as well as other cancers showing osteotropism; nutrigenomics.
