My major research interests are to study the regulatory mechanisms by which pluripotent mesenchymal stem cells differentiate into osteoblasts (bone-forming cells) or chondrocytes (cartilage-forming cells) and investigate the role of specific signaling pathways in bone/cartilage regeneration and diseases. Currently, research in my laboratory is focused on the following areas: (1) the role of bone sialoprotein (BSP) in osteoblast differentiation and bone regeneration, (2) molecular regulation of chondrocyte differentiation and articular cartilage regeneration, and (3) pathogenetic mechanisms and novel therapeutics for osteoarthritis.
