Research

The KU Orthopedic and Sports Medicine Department is dedicated to orthopedic research including biomechanical, as well as molecular and biological research. There are two modern laboratories used by the orthopedists where physicians, Ph.D researchers, residents, graduate students, medical students and others perform research. The orthopedic department research labs have been very successful in obtaining federal funding for a variety of studies.

Currently the department ranks 25 of 43 for academic orthopedic research funding by the National Institutes of Health, and is currently conducting grant-funded research for the U.S. Department of Defense. The Orthopedic Research and Education Center is headed by the James R. Neff/John and Harriet Wiebe Chair of Biomechanics, Terence E.
