Giulia Bonaminio, Ph.D., Associate Dean for Medical Education
Director, Office of Medical Education
Dr. Giulia Bonaminio received her B.S. in Biology from Bowling Green State University, her M.S. and Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics from The Ohio State University, and completed a postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Genetics at Stanford University. Dr. Bonaminio is a Research Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine. She has responsibility for oversight of the curriculum, the standardized patient program, the evaluation of courses and the curriculum, and medical education research. Dr. Bonaminio has conducted faculty development workshops locally and nationally on topics including curriculum design, small group teaching and evaluation.

Ann Alexander, M.Ed., Program Manager for Medical Education Technology
Ann Alexander earned a B.S. in Education from Illinois State University and a Masters in Education in Educational Technology from the University of Texas at Brownsville.    She has been an educator teaching English and as an Instructional Technologist since 1981.  Ms. Alexander came to the University of Kansas in September of 2011 and is responsible for supporting the School of Medicine and their technology integrations needs.

Benito A. Berardo, Program Manager, Phase II Curriculum
Benito Berardo earned a BA degree in History from The University of Florida and has been with The University of Kansas since 1996 first supporting the Assistant Dean of Fine Arts on the main campus in Lawrence before becoming the clerkship administrator for Pediatrics at The University of Kansas Medical Center in 2000. Mr. Berardo joined the Department of Medical Education in 2007 and assists the Phase II Curriculum Director, supporting, reviewing, and making recommendations for revising 3rd and 4th year clerkship curriculum components to aid in course development and implementation. He is also responsible for managing and supporting medical student electronic evaluation and patient encounter logging systems as well as coordinates the 3rd year course ICM 900, Issues in Clinical Medicine.

Kathryn Istas, M.P.H., Evaluation and Information Resource Specialist
Kathryn Istas earned a Bachelor of Arts in the Humanities from the University of Kansas and Master of Public Health from the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  Prior to joining the University of Kansas Medical Center, Office of Medical Education, Ms. Istas worked in medical education curriculum evaluation and curriculum assessment for three years.  Ms. Istas is responsible for component evaluation and evaluation reporting.  She also consults on evaluation tools and methodology. 

Connie Kramer, Senior Coordinator
Connie Kramer supports the education committees for the School of Medicine (Phase I Committee, Phase II Committee, and Education Council) and any related subcommittees. Prior to joining the Office of Medical Education in 2006, Ms. Kramer was the Residency Senior Coordinator, and Student Coordinator for the Department of Internal Medicine. She holds a B.A. in English and Mathematics from Valparaiso University.

Christina Magnifico, Education Support Technologist
Christina Magnifico earned a B.S. in General Studies (emphasis Biochemistry) from Columbia College and will complete a Master of Library Science in December of 2014. She has been a Public Librarian, Assistant Medical Librarian at Dykes Library, and a Research and Learning Specialist at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Christina came to the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2012, and began working with the Office of Medical Education in 2014. Christina is responsible for supporting the School of Medicine by collaborating with the Program Manager for Medical Education Technology. 

Dorothea Paiva, M.A., Coordinator of Phase I curriculum
As a Phase 1 Coordinator, Dorothea Paiva supports a variety of Phase I curriculum activities, including the recruitment of community-based physician volunteers who serve as mentors to first and second year students in the preceptor program. Additionally, she organizes the Problem-Based-Learning (PBL) cases and schedules PBL facilitators. Ms. Paiva received a B.S. in Agriculture from University of Missouri-Columbia and a Master's degree in German Literature from the University of Kansas. She taught German at William Jewell College and the University of Kansas, and taught a high-school class for the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Her biggest accomplishment has been to raise three outstanding children.

Anthony M. Paolo, Ph.D., Director of Assessment and Evaluation
Dr. Anthony Paolo received his BA in Psychology from Iowa State University, his MA in Educational Psychology from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and his PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Kansas.  He is a Research Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science and Director of Assessment and Evaluation in the Office of Medical Education. Dr. Paolo is responsible for the program evaluation of the School of Medicine's curriculum. In consultation with the curriculum committees, he designed and implemented the system and continues to enhance and modify it as the curriculum evolves. He is a prolific researcher with over 200 publications and presentations. In his spare time he enjoys watching the Kansas City Chiefs, playing backgammon, and working on his 40 acre ranch.

Melissa Quearry, M.P.A., Program Manager, Phase I Curriculum
Melissa Quearry received a B.A. in History and a Masters degree in Public Administration from the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Ms. Quearry has been at KU Medical Center since 2004. She managed a faculty development grant in the Department of Family Medicine Research Division before joining the Office of Medical Education in 2006. Prior to coming to KU Medical Center, she worked as a Marketing and Program Director in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Education.
