Post-Baccalaureate Program Instructions

Purpose
The Post-Baccalaureate Program is a 13-month structured academic program designed to strengthen the biological and social sciences foundation for students preparing for careers in medicine.   This is a conditional admission program; as a result of the successful completion of the program with a 3.0 G.P.A., each participant will matriculate into The University of Kansas School of Medicine the following fall.

Eligibility

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
  • The student has applied to the University of Kansas School of Medicine, been interviewed, and subsequently selected by the School of Medicine Admissions Committee for invitation to apply to the Post-Baccalaureate Program (Post-Bac).
  • The student must be from a disadvantaged background and/or be a member of a population that is underrepresented or underserved in the health field (i.e. Native American, African American, Hispanic American, Southeast Asian, rural community).

Courses Offered
The program includes three academic semesters (summer, fall, & spring) followed by a summer pre-admissions program.  During the academic semesters, participants will enroll in a full-time course of study. Three credit hours in the summer and 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters is considered full-time.  Courses are taken on the Edwards/Lawrence campuses and are selected for each student based on their background in order to strengthen their foundation for medical school.  In addition, students will participate, as a cohort, in team building, professionalism, time management, test-taking, and cultural competence/sensitivity seminars.
