Emily S. Steinbis, M.D. specializes in obstetric and gynecological care. She recently joined the KU Women's Health Specialty Centers in August 2010 as a Clinical Assistant Professor after moving from Texas with her husband and daughter. In addition to general obstetrics, her other interests include minimally invasive surgery, evaluation and management of abnormal pap smears, and medical and surgical management of various gynecologic conditions such as uterine fibroids, abnormal bleeding, infertility, and contraception. She enjoys taking care of women of all ages.
Dr. Steinbis completed her medical education and residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX. During her final year of residency, she served as Chief Resident. She received numerous awards during residency including: Resident of the Year - 2009, 2nd place in the Arthur Faris Resident Research Day - 2009, as well as being honored several times by her medical students as Outstanding Medical Student Educator - 2008 and 2009. Dr. Steinbis received her undergraduate degree from Rice University in Houston, TX with a B.S. in Bioengineering, focusing on Cellular and Molecular Engineering. During that time, she spent several years researching pharmacologic inhibitors of breast cancer and developing scaffolds for tissue engineering. She has since remained active in research, most recently evaluating ultrasound techniques to identify fetal obesity in utero.
