Our neurosurgical residents have a broad range of opportunities available to them for study outside the walls of our institution. Residents are sent to multiple courses each year of their training starting at the PGY-1 level.
The PGY 3 level will be sent to the Research Update in Neuroscience for Neurosurgeons (RUNN course) in Woods Hole, Massachusetts. This is done in preparation for their dedicated research year. As a PGY 4, the resident will attend multiple basic science conferences, the Washington Neuroradiology Review and Dr. Kenneth M. Earle Memorial Neuropathology Review course, and the Chicago Review in preparation for their board exams.
As a PGY 5 the residents will have the option of attending several advanced skull based and vascular conferences. At the PGY6 level the resident will have the chance to attend senior level advanced technique courses as well as the Congress of Neurosurgeons and the American Association of Neurological Surgeons conferences. If the resident has a paper, presentation, or poster accepted to any of the major neurosurgical or academic conferences their attendance is granted pending program director approval.
