Sally A. Frutiger, Ph.D.

Clinical Associate Professor


Dr. Frutiger received her Bachelor's of Science in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She received her Master of Arts (1980) and Doctor of Philosophy (1984) degrees in Experimental Psychology, specializing in Physiological Psychology, and completed respecialization coursework in Clinical Psychology (1995) at the University of Minnesota. Dr. Frutiger completed an internship in Clinical Neuropsychology at the University of Florida Health Science Center and postdoctoral training in Clinical Neuropsychology at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and the University of Minnesota Medical School. These fellowships concentrated on clinical training in neuropsychological assessment as well as research training in functional neuroimaging (PET, fMRI, structural MRI/cortical surface modeling).

Dr. Frutiger has held assistant to associate professor faculty appointments at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, Denison University, and St. Mary's College of Minnesota where she taught courses primarily within the area of psychobiology and conducted animal research on neural mechanisms of motivation and emotion. She was a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of Minnesota Medical School where she performed research using PET and functional MRI.

Dr. Frutiger joined the faculty at the University of Kansas in June, 2000 and is a senior neurologist at the Center for Neuropsychology and Cognitive Neuroscience. Her research interests and publications have included neural mechanisms mediating attention, learning/memory, motor control, and executive function in neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders; neural mechanisms of emotion, motivation and reward; and the role of the dopaminergic neural systems in cognition and behavior.
